Newman Carpenter produces health communication strategy and materials for our clients, targeting public health and behavior change.

OUR WORK

We partner with health-focused organizations like health departments, universities, researchers, and clinics to produce communication tools. These include creative materials like video, web, audio, and print and digital visuals.

Our process includes literature and evidence reviews, community member input, behavior change theory, needs assessments, iterative development and production, and client input and revision, as well as guidelines for dissemination.

We work on a variety of projects across many levels of scope and budget.

Co-CEO & Founder

Emily Newman, MPH

Emily Newman is a public health practitioner and an award-winning television producer with over a decade of experience developing reality TV in New York City. She received her B.A. from the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, her Master's of Public Health from the UNC Gillings Global School of Public Health, and her health coaching certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. A North Carolina native, Emily founded the virtual fitness network @moveyourbooty in 2009. She is a mother to two wild and wonderful young children and wife to one wild and wonderful musician and writer husband.

At Newman Carpenter, Emily develops and produces creative storytelling tools, designs communication campaigns, and merges public health best practices with innovative marketing strategies.

Co-CEO & Founder

Kathryn Carpenter, MPH, MA

Kathryn Carpenter is a public health practitioner and a linguist and educator. Originally from Alaska, she is based in the DC area. She has an MA in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching from the University of Oregon, and an MPH in Health Behavior from UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health. Prior to co-founding Newman Carpenter, she worked as a tenure-track professor in Mexico, and as a curriculum developer and instructor. She was also a Fulbright grantee in Portugal.

At Newman Carpenter, Kathryn communicates with community members, develops accessible and engaging scripts and copy, and incorporates theory into behavior change materials.
